SUNDAY, JULY 12
Immigrant Lessons – ORIGINS / IV | Drive-In live performance 8:00 pm – 9:00pm
Integrating fashion, theatre, music and dance, artists tell their stories as 1st and 2nd generation immigrants navigating “Canadian” culture.
Creative Direction: Kevin Fraser Music: I will provide full credits for music in the next couple of days.
Interpreters: Sharon Lee, Sophia Gamboa, Joshua Cameron, Sevrin Emnacen-Boyd, Simran Sachar, Hayden Pereira
Julio Ramirez, Jason Bempong
9 dance theatre artists dive into their unique stories, and journey through intersections of identity, to uncover the similarities, together through the mediums of: dance, theatre, voice, spoken word, and archives of the memories passed down… they will examine the cycles of such topics as; immigration, systemic/intersectional oppression, colonialism/imperialism, colourism, and the ripple of how they affect the ways we interact in the present. How do we sift away the debris of epigenetics? How do we stand in the truths of how history affects us in the present? How do we hold space for one another as we peel back the layers of inherited traumas? How do we coexist?
Established in 2016, Immigrant Lessons is a Vancouver- based, international dance/fashion/art collective created to promote cultural pluralism utilizing: dance, music, fashion, media, and visual design. The collective is founded/directed by Kevin Fraser. It’s current core members are multi – disciplinary artists: Sharon Lee, Sophia Gamboa, Sevrin Emnacen-Boyd, Joshua Cameron, Simran Sachar, Tegvaran Singh, Hayden Pereira, Jason Bempong, and Tony Ramirez. This diverse collective is composed predominantly of first and second generation immigrants, with ancestry scattered across oceans ( India, Philippines, Ghana, Korea, Mexico, Jamaica, Goa). With a shared love of movement and art, Immigrant Lessons incorporates their extensive street dance background, experimental practice, contemporary ideology, and the investigation of societal norms and intersections to give voice and visibility to marginalized and oppressed communities. Immigrant Lessons aims to: heal, inspire, excite, inform, motivate, and uplift.

Saturday’s Performance was amazing:
SATURDAY, JULY 11
UNTITLEdISTANCE | Drive-in, live performance 9:00pm – 10:00pm
Presenting Sponsor: Sherdan White, Royal Lepage Realty
UNTITLEdISTANCE is a duet about Arash and Emmalena, two dancers based in Vancouver who grew up far from here and far from each other. Through their encounter, they tell stories from the past to illuminate their possible imagined individual and collective futures. They entertain, inquire, and provoke as they move through universal themes such as togetherness, aging, and love to those more arrestingly contemporary such as our rapidly changing climates and migration. What is it that links this wild range of themes? Us. Through questions, answers, and attempts to understand this moment in time, Arash and Emma bring humanness to the foreground in far-reaching dances of seriousness and silliness, madness, and hope.
Hamid Sefat – Hotline Bling (Farsi cover)
Julia Adams – Hotline Bling (Swedish cover)
Wildfellaz & Arman Cekin – Hotline Bling (Remix)
Drake – Hotline Bling (instrumental)
Timmy Thomas – Why can’t we live together
