NOW AT A NEW VENUE!

2012 WEE TIPPLE SINGLE MALT SCOTCH FESTIVAL

Friday, March 9

Grand Hotel, Rutherford Road, Nanaimo

Taste testing an exquisite variety of scotch whiskies, spirits, local wines, craft brews and fine foods moves further upscale as we are pleased to announce a new partnership with Nanaimo’s Grand Hotel as the venue for Wee Tipple on March 9.

The Grand Hotel recently opened Nanaimo's first Whisky Bar. The hotel currently stocks about 60 labels. The Grand Hotel's commitment to 'whisky culture' was noted as a major attraction for Crimson Coast for this, our major annual fundraiser.

Wee Tipple features representatives and distributors of distilleries offering samplings of their products in an educational and entertaining environment. Whisky fans will delight with some of the rare names and labels making appearances. While reps address the nose, taste, finish and balance of their brands, Master Distiller Mike Nicholson will be on hand to provide an overview of the whisky scene, tasting tips and tales of his life as a third generation distiller. Part showman and part professor, Mike Nicholson will lead the “Presenter’s Table”.

For those who don’t appreciate a wee dram, there will be plenty of options including a Virgin Bar hosted by the Grand to ensure designated drivers can enjoy the festivities as well. A Tequila Table will return from last year’s Wee Tipple. Craft brews and wines from around Vancouver Island will make guest appearances as well as some exotic, unique beverages.

Sumptuous food is a big part of the evening with Grand Hotel Chef Ian Ver Teer preparing fine tapas dishes featuring fresh, local ingredients. Sippers will enjoy a range of delicacies from Island seafood and shellfish harvesters to local charcuterie and cheese makers. Live entertainment rounds out the evening.

Wee Tipple is evolving once again and Crimson Coast is pleased to make this important connection with a property that offers such luxurious appointments in an excellent setting. Look forwarsd to a silent auction with many unique items as well as other fundraising fun for the evening. Proceeds from this event are a welcome contribution to Crimson Coast in these tough times for arts groups.

Sipping, sampling and tasting takes place from 7 - 10 pm. Options for a ‘safe ride home’ will be available, and the Grand Hotel is offering a special Wee Tipple room rate for guests who wish to just ‘take the elevator home’.

Don't miss this chance to sample some of the finest whisky ever distilled and bottled in an evening of fun, food and entertainment.

All-inclusive tickets for the evening are $55 and available IN ADVANCE ONLY

at the Grand Hotel front desk 250-758-3000

MOVING WORDS

A weekend of dance and poetry to celebrate the work of Deborah Dunn

Friday, May 18: Special event with our local poetry and dance community

Four Quartets

Deborah Dunn

Trial and Eros Productions

based on poemS by T.S. Elliot

Saturday May 19: Performance: Malaspina Theatre at VIU, 8 pm

T.S. Eliot considered Four Quartets to be his masterpiece. The choreography embraces Eliot's play of imagery and abstractions, its lyric and architectural style weaving through the musicality of the language to meet the grace and power of the words.  Four Quartets presents a contemplative world while not letting go the humour and sensuality characteristic of Deborah's work.

Sunday, May 20: Masterclass with Deborah Dunn: Dancing with words.

Special event with our local poetry and dance community
