Join Nicole Mion of Springboard Performance (Calgary), Danielea Castell, Genevieve Martin and Holly Bright in a week long creative process to develop a movement based performance that explores the value of water to our community, our person and our lives.Body of Water, a creative stream of exchange, is an imaginative ode to the environment that has taken place at specific sites in Whitehorse, Calgary, St. Johns and now Nanaimo.From May 15 to the 20th registrants will plunge into an artistic exploration of the everyday importance of water. Local artists, directed by guest Nicole Mion, guide registered participants to develop, together, an artistic, performative, commentary on the convergence and collective experience of the waters that intersect to shape Nanaimo. An outdoor, public presentation takes place May 20. The performance piece will continue to develop and be presented July 9 at InFrinGinG Dance Festival.The goal of the project is to find shared roots in this place we call home, to build community and inspire Water stewardship through creativity.ABOUT THE ARTISTSArtist, curator, NICOLE MION, creates for the stage and screen. She is a sought-after director and contemporary choreographer, known for her highly physical and theatrical style. She specializes in contemporary performance, new media, dance, and installation. She is Artistic Director for Springboard Performance and Co-Artistic Director for Road Pictures.DANIELEA CASTELL is the founder of the Water Gratitude Project whose goal is to help communities develop a relationship with their local bodies of Water through collaborative ceremony and creative forms of gratitude.
